Use the Old Photo Effects to Make Your Photos Different

Perhaps you’ve noticed old photo effects have been growing in popularity these days! People are searching for that worn-out old photograph look. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to achieve with the sharp quality of today’s cameras and printers! This is why people have turned to old filters, which provide that classic look with ease! Doing this will give your image a different look, but how does one add old filters to their photos? Well, here’s how!

Part 1. Easiest Way to Apply Old Photo Effects on Your Photos

The first method that we’re going to be introducing is Wondershare Fotophire Editing Toolkit. This is a desktop software that will allow you to add old photo filters to your image! It’s pretty easy to use too, all it really takes is one-click to apply the filter of which they offer tons that you can choose from!

How to Apply Old Photo Effects on Your Photos with Fotophire Editing Toolkit

Step 1: Double Click Photo Editor

After downloading and installing the Fotophire Editing Toolkit,double-click the box furthest to the left to launch this editor!

Step 2: Import Image File

In order to begin editing, you’re going to have to import the image that you want to edit first! To do this, click on the Open… text (found farthest to the left.) This will prompt a windows popup that will ask you to import the image that you want to use.

Step 3: Effects module

The tab that you should be in (for the purpose of today’s tutorial), is the Effects tab(highlighted blue in the image below.) This is where you’ll find the different categories of filters that Fotophire has available!

Step 4: Vintage

One category that Fotophire offers is the Vintage category. You can find all of the old photo effects here! For this sample, we decided to go with the “Light Brown” filter.To apply it, just click on the preview provided on the right hand side of the screen!

Step 5: Save

Of course, you can try out other filters or make adjustments (using the other tools.) However, remember, don’t exit the window without saving! Click on the Save icon on the top menu toolbar.

Part 2. How to Add Old Photo Effects on Your Photos with Mac Computer

Now, if you’re looking for a Mac alternative to use, then you can try out the Movavi photo editor. This comes in a Mac version that you can download and try out! It’s not all that different from the Fotophire Toolkit, which offers preset filters and effects that you can use to change the overall look of your images!

Step 1: Download Mac Version

To start, you’re going to have to download the Mac version of the Movavi Photo Editor! This part is easily enough done, just click on the Download for Free (for the free trial.) Download it from their website:https://movavi.com/mac-photo-editor/

Step 2: Import Image Files

Next up, you’re going to have to import the image that you want to edit. To do this, either drop the image file onto the screen, or click the green Browse for Images button.

Step 3:Effects (tab)

The Effects tab is the tab we’re going to be using to apply an old photo filter to our image! Just click on this tab (furthest to the right of the main screen), and wait for the right-hand side of the screen to change.

Step 4: Pick the Retro

To gain access to the old photo filters, pick the Retro category on the effects module. You can apply whatever filter you prefer with a single click! The one that we decided to use for our sample is the “Metropolis” filter, but they do offer a couple of other effects that you can choose from.

Step 5: Save

To save your progress, all you have to do is click the Save button on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Part 3. How to Add Old Photo Effects on Your Photo with Mobile App

The next program that we’re going to use is a lot simpler than the others. It’s a mobile application that you can use on both your IOS and Android devices! You can call this app as an extension of Photoshop, except for this one there are actual presets! Learn how to use it in the tutorial below!

Step 2: Apply “Memory” Filter

There are different filters available on this app, but the one that we applied to this sample is the “Memory” filter! You can preview that different effects on bottom of the screen! That’s really all there is to it! If you click the arrow screen on the left-hand corner of the screen or the share icon (the right hand side of the screen), you’ll get the option to save your image!

Conclusion:

As you can see, there are a couple of different ways that you apply old photo effects on your images! All of these methods can make your photographs stand out from the rest, by giving it that old patina look (without having to wait years and years for the printed image to start wearing out.) Of course, if you want our recommendation as to which one you should try, then you should check out the Fotophire Editing Toolkit first! It’s more stable (in comparison to mobile apps) and the easiest to use (in comparison to other desktop softwares!
