In this tutorial, we’re going to be teaching you how to add Christmas filters on your photographs! Such filters are often cold wintery green, with some fuzzy grainy overlays that signify the addition of snow or even Christmas lights! Continue reading to learn how to add Christmas photo effects on your photographs now!
The first method that we’re going to introduce is Fotophire Editing Toolkit. With this one, we’re going to be using a desktop software that is 100% intuitive. That means, that everyone can use it. It doesn’t take any special skill or training in order to edit with the Fotophire Editor!
The first step includes the launching of the the Photo Editor (the box furthest to the left.) Double-clicking on this box and run the program , just wait for a couple of seconds to be sent to the welcome hub.
The next step is fairly straightforward as well, just click on the white Open… text on the upper left-hand side of the screen and choose the image that you want to edit in the popup.
This is the image (refer to the screenshot down below) that we decided to use for our tutorial. As you can see, it’s already winter-themed, but we’re going to be adding a couple of extra things to make the mood even more Christmassy! To start, click the effects tab! This is where you can find the preset filters available on the Fotophire Photo Editor!
If you’re looking for a moody filter, then I would suggest checking out their “Environment” category. We used the “Blue Night” filter here, but the “Landscape Sun” could have been a good chose as well! To apply the filter, click on the preview boxes (on the right-hand side of the screen.) That’s all it takes!
If you want to make some wild changes, you can check out the adjustments tab (highlighted blue in the screenshot below.) They have all sorts of tools here, we decided to use the “Tone Curves” tool, which allows you to control the overall mood of the image by adjusting the line (shown in the image below.) As you can see, the adjustment of the curve allowed us to get a less saturated image (giving it a wintery snow kind of feel!)
As an extra bonus, you can also add textures that can make you look like it’s snowing! These can be found in the Textures tab. The one that we used for this one is the “Grain” texture. We picked out the grains that were the most spread out, to give the appearance of snow! To apply the texture, just click on the texture’s preview box!
You can continue making your own changes from here on out (like adding a frame or some text.) However, make sure that you don’t exit the window without saving first! To save, click on the Save… icon on the top toolbar! OR press the Ctrl + S keys on your keyboard!
Now, as an added bonus, we’re going to be introducing you to a couple of other photo editors that you can use to add Christmas photo effects on your images! All of these are available in Windows PC but vary in capabilities (some having more tools and other having less. However, overall, all of these should be able to provide some way of making your images fit in with the season)

Vintager calls itself a system navigator. It’s a strange way to refer to a photo editor, but it is in fact, a photo editor! It will allow you to add quick filters and other effects (Christmas photo filters included!) The program is also pretty easy to use, but you definite not get the same variety here that you can get with products like Fotophire or Photoshop!

Price: $20
The program is intuitive enough to allow easy editing! Of course, much like most of the programs that we will be introducing today, this one has preset filters and effects that you can apply to your photographs with a single-click! Unfortunately, the filter archive here is even smaller than the previous product.

Now, with the addition of the Microsoft App store, you can use apps like Ribbet! Ribbet was created to be a mobile application, but you can download it on your PC, and just it like a regular software (of course, only on Windows 10.) The program is intuitive and offers a small cache of preset filters!

This is actually a photo editing website, but again, it’s something that you can get access to on your PC! You just need internet to use it! Unfortunately, the available tools here are rather limited, but the fact that it’s free should offer you some level of comfort in regards the availability of said tools.

Here we have yet another FREE program. This one, like the two programs we introduced previously, is a bit unconventional. It’s (primarily) an illustrator. So, whatever Christmas effects you want to add, you’re going to have to get a little creative with it! In that sense, it also offers tools that will allow you to get very detailed with your edits.
Now, let’s introduce you to a program that you can use on a Mac program! Unsurprisingly, the one that we’re introducing today is Adobe Photoshop. It’s one of the biggest graphics editors out there, so of course, it has a Mac version! The process of adding effects on a Windows run Photoshop is the same as one running on iOS, so don’t worry! Feel free to follow along with this tutorial.
To start, let’s import the image that we want to edit! This is easily enough done. Just click on the Open… text on the left-hand side of the screen and pick out the image that you want to edit from the popup!
This is the original version of the image that we’re going to be adding Christmas Photo Effects to! Pay close attention to how it looks like now and compare it to how we’ll change it later!
The catch with Photoshop, is the fact that there are no preset filters! If you want to use filters, then you’re going to have to get them yourself! You can do this by purchasing some from their Adobe Photoshop store or looking online. To access their store, click Filter tab > Browse Filters Online… To download the filter that we used on this tutorial, click on this link https://stacheactions.deviantart.com/art/Cozy-Action-Set-Revamped-385394572 to Staceactions’s blog!
There are a couple of things that you’re going to have to do to import whatever preset you decided to download. But first, let’s get the ball rolling. Start with clicking on the Edit tab > Presets > Export/Import Presets...
Next, there’s a series of steps that you need to take. To keep it simple, follow the steps as laid out down below.
We’re almost done, don’t worry! Next up, we have to load the preset into our Photoshop Actions module. This can be found on the right-hand side of the screen (looks like a play button.)
To load your presets, click on the “=” button on the upper right-hand corner of the Actions module. Then, choose the Load Actions… from the drop-down menu! This will allow you to choose the presets that you want to load!
To apply filters, just highlight the action with a click and then press the play button that can be found on the bottom of the actions module! This will automatically apply the filters for you!
This is the result of our one-click filter! As you can see, it added a really moody wintery filter that is reminiscent to a snowy Christmas day.
Feel free to make whatever changes you want to your file after this. Just remember! Don’t close the windows without saving first! You can save by clicking on the File tab > Save as...
Based on the Windows programs that we introduced, we’re going to list out a couple of Mac alternatives that you can try out for getting yourself that Christmas Photo Effect that you’re looking for! Again, all of these are Mac alternatives, and much like the Windows list we provided — these will be slightly different from each other when it comes to capabilities!

This is probably something that you’re familiar with as a Mac user! After all, Preview comes pre-installed with all computers that run on Mac! Just in case you were not aware, this comes with different filters that you can try to give your images that sweet Christmas-like effect!
Price: $39.95
Movavi is a pretty big brand. They have a line of graphics, video, etc. editing products! Their Photo Editor is just one of those things, and much like most of the other programs that we introduced here, this comes with preset filters that you can use to come up with that winter feel!

Price: $29.99
This is a program that is only available on Mac computers! It’s a little difficult to get used to at first (all of the tools are separate window pop-ups — rather than just a singular screen.) Still, if you’re up for the challenge, you can definitely use this to apply various filters and effects (Christmas photo effects included!)

We mentioned this in the Windows list, but GIMP is also available on Mac Operating Systems! As mentioned, you can use it to adjust the overall image (with color adjustment tools.) It’s also 100% FREE, so that’s a plus!
Price: $4.99
This is one of the cheaper options that we introduced. Like the others, it comes with a small cache of preset filters that you can use to edit your images! There’s really nothing else all that different about it (outside of the fact that it’s only available on Mac OS.)
